Utilita’s reward scheme allows customers to earn planetpoints, which can be exchanged for a variety of energy-saving products (28/1/10).
Utilita is a small, independent energy company, based in Hampshire. Its name comes from the Latin noun “utilitas”, which means useful and beneficial.
Utilita says it has developed a “highly effective, cost efficient, fully integrated, way of operating” that allows it to offer significant savings and benefits to the customer.
Utilita offers a reward scheme where customers earn planetpoints, which can be exchanged for energy saving products. Utilita allows customers to earn planetpoints on all of its energy tariffs, at varying rates.
Products that can be bought with planetpoints include:
At the time of writing, Utilita is giving new customers 150 free planetpoints when they sign up for any Utilita tariff. These are then automatically redeemed for three energy light bulbs.
Utilita offers three different energy tariffs. Each charges different prices and allows the customer to earn different amounts of planetpoints:
The cheapest option is the energysaver tariff, but customers can earn the most planetpoints with the planetsaver tariff.
Planetpoints earned on the planetsaver tariff are automatically redeemed to make the energy on the tariff 100% carbon neutral. However, customers can opt-out of this and instead use their planetpoints to purchase products to help them reduce their energy consumption and thus cut their energy bills in the long term.
Utilita has started offering a prepayment tariff in several regions in the South. It says that the tariff offers fair prices, equal to standard credit tariffs, and the prepayment meters it installs are smarter than standard prepayment meters.
Utilita’s prepayment meters come with hand-held “Freedom Units” which allow customers to see how much energy they are using in real-time. It plans to make its prepayment tariff available across the country in the future.
