The tariffs

Scottish Power Electricity customers pay a different amount for their electricity depending on the region in which they live, but there are also options to take Fixed Price Energy until March 2011, remove the standing charge on your energy with No Standing Charge - so you pay a higher rate on the first 225kWh of electricity used per quarter and a lower charge for the remainder, or receive a discount of £10.50 if you take your electricity account online.

Discounts

  • You can receive a discount of £10.50 if you take your electricity account online
  • If you sign up for Scottish Power electricity and add gas at a later date you’ll immediately receive an additional discount of up to £16.80

Advantages

There is a wide range of tariffs on offer for customers wanting to take their electricity from Scottish Power - and a range of discounts too.

You’ll also receive a discount of £10.50 for taking your account online which allows you to help the environment by reducing the amount of paper bills that are sent out, and help yourself by managing all your bills online and even entering your own meter readings - so you’ll never have an estimated bill again.

Scottish Power also offers advice on how to reduce your energy usage and even has an online carbon calculator so help you work out your carbon footprint.

Disadvantages

There isn’t a standard discount available to electricity customers, as is offered by some competitors - but you can get a discount if you take dual fuel or opt for paperless online account management. However you should compare your overall savings - not just discounts - when deciding which provider to choose.

Is it right for me?

Scottish Power is a great choice for eco-conscious consumers as it has the largest wind farms in the UK and a number of off-shore wind stations generating large amounts of electricity for the national grid. So as well as saving on your bills, you’ll be able to help save the environment. You can also qualify for additional discounts by taking your account online - which actually makes managing it easier as well - and can switch to Green Energy H2O, Scottish Power’s green tariff, at no extra cost, and keep any dual fuel discount too.

However, you should always compare suppliers using EnergyChoices.co.uk to make sure that you’re getting the best deal for your needs, and where you can also sign up online.
