History

The Scottish & Southern Energy Group (SSE) was formed in 1999 with the merger of Scottish Hydro-Electric and Southern Electric.

Following the acquisition of SWALEC in 2000 and Atlantic Electric & Gas in 2004, SSE has grown into one of the largest energy supply companies in the UK and now has over nine million customers.

In the community

The Scottish & Southern Energy Services team was set up to provide a comprehensive range of products and an information service to the public, industrial and commercial organisations throughout the UK and Ireland.

The Innovation in Energy award at the Scottish Energy and Environment Conference (SEEC) 2009 is sponsored Scottish & Southern Energy. The award will be given to a Scottish organisation that can demonstrate the establishment and success of innovative steps to reduce energy demands in the last 12 months.

The company is also undertaking a number of “green” initiatives, including:

Promoting the use of energy saving light bulbs in large organisations and companies
Partnerships with DIY stores Wickes and Focus Do It All to promote the benefits of home insulation.
