New company, OVO Energy, has undercut the “big six” energy retailers to provide the UK’s cheapest domestic dual fuel energy tariff in most regions.
OVO Energy, a Gloucestershire-based start-up has grabbed pole position in the energy price war, gaining 12 of the top 14 positions.
OVO is the first company to enter the energy market in several years. It has promised to offer easy-to-understand tariffs and UK-based customer service.
It has two dual tariffs - the OVO new energy plan and the OVO green energy plan. The latter features 100% green electricity.
On its website, OVO said: “We went around the world to find the best technology systems and spent months finding the right people for our team.”
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “It’s good to see a new entrant in the energy sector – anything that could inject some competition is welcome.
“The OVO tariff looks good on price, but customers should be aware that the tariff is fixed-price for 12 months. If they want to cancel and switch suppliers, they will have to pay a £30 cancellation fee per fuel.”
