8 million households will benefit from immediate price cut, says British Gas, UK’s largest supplier of gas.
British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) cut standard gas prices by 7% this morning with immediate effect. It’s the third time British Gas has cut prices in the past 12 months.
British Gas managing director Phil Bentley, said: “This latest price cut means that, no matter where you live in Britain, British Gas is offering on average the cheapest standard gas, electricity and dual fuel prices – beating all other major suppliers.”
British Gas highlighted that it has also removed the premium that pre-payment meter customers are paying for their gas. It said they now pay the same as customers paying by cheque or cash.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk said: “This price cut is a bold move, but remember it only applies if you are on British Gas’s standard tariff.
“Anyone interested in ensuring they are paying the least possible for their household energy, should compare gas and electricity prices, as well as buying both their gas and electricity from the same supplier.
“Moving to ‘dual fuel’, paying by direct debit, and signing up for online billing are all important ways you can make significant cuts to your bills.”
British Gas also launched Websaver 6 today, a dual fuel, online account which offers gas and electricity prices 6% below British Gas's standard tariff.
