Scrap your old boiler and you could potentially get £800 off a new one by combining Npower’s scrappage deal with the government’s scheme.

Npower yesterday launched its own boiler scrappage scheme, which offers customers a £400 discount on a new Npower boiler if they scrap their old one.

The energy savings that a new boiler brings amount to nearly £235 off your annual gas bill.

The offer is open to customers of all energy suppliers, but their boiler must be more than 10 years old.

This deal comes hot on the heels of the government’s boiler scrappage scheme, which was announced in the Pre-Budget Report last week. The government will offer a £400 discount to Brits who replace inefficient boilers (those rated G or worse).

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk, said: “In theory, customers could get £800 of a new boiler if they make use of both schemes.

“However, this will depend on the eligibility criteria for the government’s scheme, which are yet to be released.”

Eagle advised: “If you are considering the Npower deal, you should compare installation costs with at least one other supplier, to check that you really will be saving money with Npower.”

Kevin Miles, CEO of Npower retail, outlined two good reasons to replace your old boiler.

He said: “Firstly the energy the energy savings that a new boiler brings amount to nearly £235 off your annual gas bill, compared to a G-rated boiler.

“Secondly, very old boilers, unless properly maintained, could pose a health and safety risk.”
