Established in 2002 Opus supplies gas and electricity exclusively to businesses, it has UK call centres and provides free smart meters to its business customers too.
Opus is able to provide all businesses with a reliable source of low-cost electricity, due to a long term power supply agreement with one of its major shareholders - International Power Plc.
Opus Energy powers more than 80,000 businesses across the UK, many of which are small or medium-sized.
It also supplies gas and electricity to the retail industry, the government sector and housing associations, as well as to household names such as the John Lewis Partnership, Rushcliffe Homes, Nottingham City Council, transport operator FirstGroup and high-street chocolate retailer Thorntons.
When you take out an electricity tariff with Opus it will also offer to install a smart meter at your premises.
These meters take a reading every 30 minutes so you can monitor and analyse your business’s energy consumption and make changes where appropriate.
It’s estimated that businesses could save around 12.3% on annual bills just by being able to understand where they use most resources and energy in their businesses.
Opus Energy also operates UK-only call centres and has customer service at the heart of their operating strategy.
Wherever possible, Opus will purchase electricity from renewable or cleaner power sources.
Between April 2007 and March 2010, 37% of the energy supplied by Opus to its customers came from cleaner, low-carbon sources.
Of this, 33% came from renewable generators and 4% came from cleaner Combined Heat and Power (CHP) produced by CHP generators.
Opus has its customer service centres in the UK and doesn’t outsource overseas. Each call is handled by an industry expert who should be able to answer any questions you may have immediately.
Opus Energy does not use automated telephone systems, and all customer calls will be picked up by an experienced energy professional. It aims to pick up 90% of calls in 30 seconds
Opus also promises that if the industry expert on the phone is unable to give an answer immediately, you will be called back within 48 hours with a full update.
Opus offers a couple of different online billing options for its customers.
This plan allows you to spread the cost of your electricity evenly across 12 monthly payments.
Opus will agree an estimate of your likely spend over the next year. This amount is then divided into 12 equal instalments which are paid each month by direct debit.
At least once a year, your payment plan is reviewed in light of submitted meter readings to see if there is any under or over usage. If necessary, your monthly payments will be altered to ensure your plan stays on track.
This plan allows you to pay for your electricity as and when you use it.
Your monthly invoice will reflect the amount of electricity you have used over that period and will detail the meter readings used to calculate the amount of electricity you have used.
In the absence of submitted meter readings Opus will estimate the electricity used, based on previous consumption. Any under or over usage highlighted from submitted meter readings will be reflected in your next month’s invoice.
You are also able to tailor the invoice type and contract length to suit your individual business requirements.
Opus offers fixed term and fixed unit rate contracts of up to four years.
