Energy giant Scottish Power has surprised the market with an new fixed online energy tariff, Online Energy Saver 5.
The new fixed-price energy tariff from Scottish Power (www.scottishpower.co.uk) will rival E.ON’s FixOnline (www.eonenergy.com) tariff launched last month.
Prices of the new dual fuel Scottish Power tariff are fixed until 1 June 2010, and customers must manage their accounts online and sign up to pay their energy bills by direct debit.
Customers who sign up to the new fixed price tariff will benefit from fixed prices until 1 July 2010, however will be charged a cancellation fee of £50 (£30 for electricity and £20 for gas) if they switch from Online Energy Saver 5 before 1 June 2010.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “This is an unexpected move by Scottish Power and adds an element of competition in the fixed price energy tariff battle.”
Eagle advises customers to compare energy prices online to find the cheapest tariff available. “You can keep a close eye on the energy market by subscribing to the EnergyChoices.co.uk RSS feed and email alerts.”
