British Gas announces Winter Warmer initiative

British Gas is to offer their most vulnerable customers a timely financial boost this winter.

The energy firm’s ‘Winter Warmer’ package will give customers up to a £90 winter credit and offer free loft and cavity insulation to eligible applicants.

The benefits include:

• A 2008 winter credit of up to £90
• Free energy efficiency measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation
• A ‘Warmer Home’ pack featuring essential advice for the elderly
• A voucher for £10 which can be spent at B&Q on energy efficiency measures for the home
• Two Help the Aged room thermometers
• Access to the British Gas Here to Help programme, support and advice from the programme's charity partners and a free benefits health check
• Information on how to register for the British Gas Essentials tariff - the largest social tariff on the energy market

British Gas will contact their customers who qualify for this scheme in due course. In order to qualify for ‘Winter Warmer’ savings, you must already be in receipt of one of the following:

• Pension Credit
• Disability Allowance
• Attendance Allowance

Around 25,000 British Gas customers will be able to take advantage of this incentive, which Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, describes as ‘a tailored package that helps the most vulnerable of our elderly customers reduce their current winter bill’. He continues:

‘This should be welcome news for those British Gas customers who have the most difficulty paying their fuel bills. It will have a lasting impact over a number of years.’

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk, urges British Gas customers who think they might be eligible to contact the supplier:

‘This is a great offer that all eligible customers should take advantage of. The loft insulation alone could save you in the region of £200. If you feel that you qualify for this incentive then call British Gas right away and ask for an information pack. Don't miss out!’
