The government launches its much anticipated boiler scrappage scheme today – which offers people £400 to trade in their old boiler for a new one.
Households in England can now apply for a discount of £400 on a new energy efficient boiler, when they trade in their old one.

The government said the boiler scrappage scheme will help reduce energy bills, cut CO2 emissions and support thousands of jobs in the heating industry.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said that replacing an old boiler for a new, more efficient one will save households around £200 on their heating bills each year.
He added: “In total, the scheme will save the same amount of carbon equivalent to taking around 45,000 cars off the road.”
To qualify for the scheme, households must have a working boiler that is “G-rated” or worse.
People can apply for a boiler scrappage voucher from today through the Energy Saving Trust (www.energysavingtrust.org.uk). This will entitle them to £400 off the price of a new, modern “A-rated” boiler or a renewable heating system like a biomass boiler.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “Both Npower and British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) have offered to match the government’s discount which means consumers could potentially save up to £800 on a new boiler.
“However, it’s essential to shop around and compare boiler quotes before you commit, to ensure you get the best deal.”
