British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) is to replace both the Websaver and Online Saver products with a new tariff called ONLINE ENERGY, which is the supplier’s new cheapest available online tariff. This tariff is for customers who want to manage their energy account online and get a discount against British Gas’ standard tariff. Customers can also add EnergySmart for free, which allows them to see the energy they use with a free electricity monitor and an online consumption hub.

Is It right For me?
As all the major energy companies have raised their gas and electricity prices on two separate occasions in 2011, they have quietly been withdrawing fixed-rate tariffs which offer peace of mind for the duration of the deal.
So, the British Gas Online Energy tariff is a discounted deal offering a guaranteed 4% discount against British Gas’ standard tariff until 31 January 2014. If energy prices increase, so will your bill, but you will benefit from the discount on the standard tariff for the deal’s duration.
Therefore the deal doesn’t offer a fixed-rate, but a discount on British Gas’ standard tariff and the price you pay will change as British Gas changes its prices.
The key requirements of the deal are that you receive paperless online bills and pay by direct debit, so if you prefer bills sent through the Royal Mail and prefer to pay them at the bank or by post, this deal isn’t for you.
