In addition to being able to change payment details at any time, you’ll also stop receiving paper bills. Instead, you’ll be emailed when your payment is due – this is called paperless billing, or e-billing.

You’ll also have to enter your own meter readings online. This eliminates the need to wait around for a meter reader to call, or run the risk of over-paying on an estimated bill.

Both paperless billing and online meter readings save your energy supplier a lot of money - savings that can then be passed on to you. This is why online tariffs are the cheapest deals available. You also cut down the amount of paper you waste, which in turn reduces your carbon footprint.

So by switching to a paperless, online tariff where you pay by monthly direct debit, you’ll be able to take advantage of the biggest discounts and make the biggest savings. Find out how much you could save by comparing online energy tariffs…

British Gas

Online Energy is the cheapest online tariff on the market, offering the average dual fuel customer savings of at least £67, the largest British Gas discount available online when compared to British Gas’ standard energy tariff.

With Online Energy there is no long contract or tie-in and no cancellation fee.

This tariff is only available to credit meter households – if you are a prepayment meter customer you will need to contact your existing supplier to arrange the meters to be changed.
