Protect an acre of rainforest and tackle climate change when you switch to an Ovo Energy tariff.
Ovo Energy has launched a scheme which gives new customers an acre of protected rainforest when they sign up to one of its energy tariffs.
The scheme is part of Ovo’s commitment to being “cheaper, greener and simpler “.The Amazon rainforest provides 20% of the world’s fresh water as well as a fifth of the world’s oxygen.
It costs £6 to protect an acre of rainforest. Half of this cost is met by Ovo Energy and the other half – just 25p per month – is already built into the tariffs.

Each customer will receive a personalised certificate with details of where their rainforest acre is.
In phase two of the initiative customers will be able to log into their Ovo account, check their bill and take a virtual tour of their rainforest plot, all at the same time.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “We’re all trying to do their bit for the environment.
“Ovo Energy’s new initiative is a good opportunity to make the most of a competitive energy tariff and tackle climate change. Ovo New Energy is the cheapest online fixed rate tariff on the market at the moment.”
With an Ovo Energy fixed rate tariff, customers with average usage will pay £950 a year for their gas and electricity - £100 less than the next cheapest tariff.
Launched in September 2009, Ovo Energy sources as much of their energy as possible from renewable, ethical sources.
It offers two, straightforward tariffs, Ovo New Energy and Ovo Green Energy.
The Green Energy tariff provides 100% of its electricity from renewable sources and is the cheapest 100% green energy tariff in the market.
