New email alerts from Npower will remind customers to enter their meter readings online in order to get accurate bills.
All Npower customers who manage their energy accounts online will now automatically receive an email before each bill is due, reminding them to enter their meter reading online.
Customers who provide Npower with regular meter readings will no longer have to put up with estimated bills and will only pay for the gas or electricity that they use.
Anna Pember, Npower’s online product manager, said: “We know customers don’t like getting estimated bills, so we’ve been looking at ways to eliminate them.”
She said that the meter reminder service was a great example of how technology can be used to benefit consumers.
Npower is also offering a £10 annual discount to customers who sign up to its new Go Save tariff and manage their accounts online. This is on top of the £100 annual discount customers can get by paying their bills by direct debit for 12 months continuously.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “Offering email alerts isn’t a ground-breaking development, but encouraging people to provide accurate meter readings is positive.
“By providing regular meter readings, customers can take control of their energy bills and ensure they only pay what they need to.”
