EDF Energy and Scottish Power price cuts come into force

EDF Energy and Scottish Power price cuts come into force

Friday 13 June, 2007

More than 10 million patient customers of energy suppliers EDF Energy and Scottish Power will finally see their bills drop on 15 July.

Wholesale gas and electricity prices fell by over 60 per cent in the past year but despite announcing price cuts some weeks ago, EDF and Scottish Power are the last of the “big six” to pass their savings onto customers - having only done so after being criticised by Ofgem and Energywatch.

Scottish Power will drop gas prices by 16.5 per cent and electricity prices by 5.5 per cent, while EDF customers will see only their gas bills cut by 10.2 per cent next month.

The recent price war was sparked by a British Gas decision to slash prices in January this year. Others followed suit with a range of price cuts and promotions, but prices are rumoured to stabilise soon.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “Obviously, after years of high energy prices, it’s a good thing that EDF and Scottish Power customers will soon see their bills falling. But they should still consider switching provider as they would be able to save even more - especially EDF customers whose electricity prices will not change.”
