The government’s boiler scrappage scheme still has 70,000 vouchers worth a total of £28m for UK households.
Over 50,000 UK households have claimed a voucher giving them up to £400 off a new boiler since the scheme was launched on January 5. However a further 70,000 vouchers are unclaimed.
Households can save in the region of £200 a year on energy bills once their new energy-efficient boiler is installed.
The scheme provides the under-60s with G-rated boilers a voucher worth up to £400 off the price of a new, modern A-rated boiler or a renewable heating system like a biomass boiler or a heat pump.
Those over 60 can claim for a voucher whether their boiler is G-rated or not.
British Gas, E.On, Npower and Scottish & Southern have all also pledged to double the discount giving a total saving of £800.
Gas boilers likely to be eligible for the scheme include those over 15 years old, such as boilers with a permanent pilot light. Oil-fired boilers over 25 years old are also likely to be eligible for a voucher.
The Energy Saving Trust (EST) is getting 5,000 boiler scrappage enquiries per day at its 14 call centres across England.
Fraser Winterbottom from Energy Saving Trust said: “Since the scrappage offer was launched the phones have been ringing off the hook, and our call centres have been working hard to process the applications - we've had nearly 400,000 calls nationally.
“There are still thousands more vouchers to be claimed, and with more and more companies complementing the scheme with their own offers, there's no better time to get rid of that old, inefficient boiler."
