British Gas launches WebSaver 1, its cheapest online dual fuel tariff.

British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) has replaced Click Energy 6 with WebSaver 1 as its cheapest online dual fuel tariff.

The company promises a saving of at least £146* on your gas and electricity compared to its standard tariff prices.

WebSaver 1 customers will be able to benefit fully from any energy price cuts in the New Year, British Gas has promised WebSaver 1 will always be 10% cheaper than its standard tariff.

The tariff is available to new and existing customers; British Gas WebSaver 1 features paperless billing as standard and customers will still be entitled to a £77 discount if they pay by monthly direct debt, as well as the £14 dual fuel discount.

Customers already on Click Energy 6 will not be automatically moved across to the new tariff which currently costs marginally more - Click Energy 6 costs around £1,057 a year for medium dual fuel home usage, whereas WebSaver 1 costs £1,059 - however if energy prices drop this will be reversed and the savings could be significant.

There is a cancellation fee of £30 per fuel if customers move to another tariff before 30 September 2009.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “This is an innovative 'tracker' product from British Gas which means anyone who signs up to it will be able to benefit from any energy price drops in 2009. It is definitely worth reviewing especially if you have not already capped your energy prices."

“The jury is still out on whether all the big six energy companies will lower their prices, even though the wholesale price of fuel has fallen dramatically in recent months. In the meantime, make sure you are getting the best deal for you by comparing energy tariffs.”

* Based on average annual consumption of 20,500 kWh for gas and 3,300 kWh for single rates electricity, rounded and including VAT. Prices as at 18th December 2008.
