British Gas launches WebSaver 2, the energy giant’s cheapest online tariff.

British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) has replaced its WebSaver 1 tariff with WebSaver 2, its cheapest online dual fuel tariff.

The energy giant says dual fuel average-use customers switching to the online tariff will see savings of £115 compared to its standard price tariff. This is a £73 saving on its gas, and £42 saving on its electricity.

WebSaver 2 is available to both new and existing British Gas customers, and features paperless billing and online account management.

The new tariff, which is available from today, is now British Gas’s cheapest online tariff, however as British Gas pointed out, only 70% of its customers will profit from the price drop. The savings are based on average energy consumption, so those who are low or high users may find greater savings with another energy supplier.

Customers on WebSaver 1 will remain on WebSaver 1; they will not be automatically switched onto WebSaver 2.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “The new cheaper online tariff from British Gas is a step in the right direction for energy suppliers, and it'll be interesting to see who follows with a price cut or cheaper tariff.”

He advises that now might be the right time to consider switching: "If you haven't already ,compare prices using our online energy calculator and see if you can save money by switching to a cheaper deal."
