Up to 5,000 homes in Scotland will receive £400 towards the cost of a new energy efficient boiler, as part of the country’s own boiler scrappage scheme, launched this week.
Homes with old, inefficient boilers - converting less than 70% of their fuel into heat - will qualify for cashback against the cost of a new model.
Upgrading to an A-rated, energy efficient boiler could cut heating costs by around 25%, saving Scottish consumers £190 a year on their energy bills.

Replacing 5,000 boilers will also save around 5,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, said the Scottish government, the equivalent to taking 1,700 cars off Scotland's roads, heating the water for seven million baths or heating 1,300 homes for a year.
Alex Neil, Housing and Communities Minister, said: “A vital part of this is helping people to live in greener homes which cost less to run.
“Through the boiler scrappage scheme we will help people replace rickety old boilers for new energy saving models and importantly, put money back in the pockets of householders.”
The Boiler Scrappage Scheme will be run through the Energy Saving Scotland advice network - the Scottish Government's 'one stop shop' for energy efficiency.
Vouchers will be issued on a first come, first served basis from 24 May and you can apply by calling 0800 512 012 or via the Energy Saving Trust website.
You will be able to redeem your £400 voucher for cash from the Energy Saving Trust once your energy efficient boiler has been installed.
Chris Eagle, energy expert at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “The boiler scrappage scheme was hugely successful in England and even though it has now closed here, energy providers are still offering big discounts for consumers living in England who want to upgrade their boiler and save on their energy bills.”
