The price band between eco-friendly energy tariffs and their online counterparts is diminishing.
The traditional view of green energy tariffs being more expensive than standard and online deals is being challenged by new research complied my moneysupermarket.
The average difference, per year, between the green and online tariffs offered by the big six energy companies is just £97.73. The difference between Scottish Power (www.scottishpower.co.uk) online and green tariffs clocks in at only £61.66, with E.ON (www.eon-uk.com) not far behind at £82.87.

Dedicated green electricity from specialist ecologically aware suppliers such as Ecotricity, Good Energy and Green Energy, additionally present a competitive alternative to the green tariffs offered by the big six.
When coupled with the best average gas tariff on the market, green electricity from Ecotricity comes in at an average bill of £966 a year.
Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at Energy Choices, has the inside track on green energy:
“The npower (www.npower.com) juice tariff allows you to take your electricity from renewable sources without any extra cost. If you sign up to both the gas and electricity tariffs and pay by direct debit, you’ll even get an £80 discount each year”
He continues:
“Alternatively, consider the British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) Zero Carbon tariff. Your complete gas and electricity supply are matched in renewable energy by British Gas, thus reducing your carbon footprint to zero.”
