More energy price cuts are hitting the market as E.ON chops 6% off its gas prices.
Energy provider E.ON is the latest of the “big six” energy providers to cut gas prices.
The firm today said it would cut 6% off its gas prices and overhaul of its bills.
The gas price cut is equivalent to a £42 price cut for direct debit customers, which E.ON claims makes its gas £26 a year cheaper than British Gas.
The price cut comes into effect on 31 March, except for those on the WarmAssist social tariff for whom the price cut is effective from 1 March.
E.ON is also revamping its bills to make them easier to understand.
Graham Bartlett, E.ON’s retail managing director, said: “Customers have been telling us their bills need to be clearer, better laid out and easier to understand.
“We’ve listened, and our new bills have all the relevant information up-front so our customers can see exactly how much energy they’re using and hopefully where they can make savings.”
E.ON previously cut its energy prices by 9% for electricity on 31 March 2009 and by 3.3% for gas on 4th July 2009.
The price cut follows gas price cuts last week from Scottish and Southern of 4%, and recent energy price cuts from First Utility and British Gas.
Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “Energy firms are lining up to cut gas prices, but annoyingly they are only coming once the cold weather has passed.
“Firms are also only cutting gas prices, so claims to be the cheapest provider need to be worked out, especially if you are a dual fuel customer.
“Your best bet to cut your energy bills is to shop around for the lowest online dual fuel deal and make sure you pay by direct debit.”
