British Gas launches WebSaver 3, its cheapest online dual fuel tariff, just two months after introducing WebSaver 2.

British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) has replaced its WebSaver 2 tariff with WebSaver 3, its cheapest online dual fuel tariff.

The energy giant says dual fuel customers switching to the online tariff will see average savings of £109* compared to its standard price tariff, and promises the tariff will be 6% cheaper than its standard tariff from now until 1 August 2010.

British Gas also cut the price of its standard tariff electricity by 10% today.

WebSaver 3 is available to both new and existing British Gas customers, and features paperless billing and online account management.

The new tariff, which is available from today, is now the cheapest online tariff in the UK, however as British Gas pointed out, the savings are based on average energy consumption, so those who are low or high users will not necessarily see the full benefit of the cheaper tariff.

Customers will face a cancellation charge of £30 per fuel if they sign up for WebSaver 3 but switch energy tariffs before 1 December 2009.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at EnergyChoices.co.uk said: “This new tariff will rival other online tariffs from Scottish Power and E.ON - it will be interesting to see how the other energy suppliers react to WebSaver 3.”

Eagle advises customers to compare energy prices online to find the cheapest tariff available in their area. “You can keep a close eye on the energy market by subscribing to the EnergyChoices.co.uk RSS feed and email alerts.”

* Versus British Gas standard tariff prices. Based on average annual consumption of 20,500 kWh for gas and 3,300kWh for single rate electricity, averaged across all regions, rounded and including VAT. Prices as at 7 May 2009.
