Fix your energy prices till 2012

British Gas Announce New Fixed Rate Tariff

Writes Hazel Cottrell hazel.cottrell@consumerchoices.co.uk

Following British Gas' price hikes, customers can now fix their newly increased rates for 4 years.

As well as announcing price rises of 35% for gas and 9% for electricity, yesterday British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) announced the launch of their new Fixed Price 2012 tariff. The new tariff allows new and existing customers to fix their rates and protect themselves from any further price increases until 31st January 2012.

This tariff is one of the longest fixed rate deals in the market and with energy prices changing at such a rapid rate, many people will be attracted to the guarantee that their energy bills would be unaffected no matter what is happening in the market.

As well as a price guarantee, this tariff also offers discounts of up to £30 off your bill when you sign up your gas and electricity online and a dual fuel discount of £14 if you sign up for both your gas and electricity. This is a limited offer, so if you do want to take advantage of it you will need to act fast.

It is important to note that if you cancel the agreement prior to the 31st January 2012 British Gas may apply a cancellation charge of £35 for electricity and £35 for Gas. You will not pay these if you are moving home.

At present the only alternative fixed rate tariff options are from E.ON, whilst the cheapest online gas and electricity tariff on the market is still British Gas’ Click Energy 5 tariff, offering savings of over £200.

Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager at Energy Choices says: ‘Fixing your energy tariff now will protect you from round two of the predicted price hikes, which are expected to hit consumers in December or January.’
