British Gas Fixed Price 2012

British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) has launched its new Fixed Price 2012 tariff, allowing you to fix your gas and electricity prices for four years. The new tariff guarantees that you will not encounter any further price increases until 31 January 2012.

With energy prices increasing rapidly it can be difficult to predict what will happen next, however British Gas is offering one of the longest fixed rate deals in the market with its Fixed Price 2012 tariff giving you the peace of mind that your energy bills will be unaffected no matter what is happening in the market.

Key facts

  • This is a limited offer so you will need to hurry if you want to take advantage of the fixed price deal
  • Available to both new and existing dual fuel, gas and electricity customers only
  • £30 off your bill when you sign up your gas and electricity online
  • Dual fuel discount of £14 if you sign up both your gas and electricity

Total potential saving: £44

It is important to note that if you cancel the agreement prior to the 31 January 2012 British Gas may apply a cancellation charge of £35 for electricity and £35 for gas. You will not pay these if you are moving home.

I am concerned that having fixed my Gas and Electric rate to 2012 over 12 months ago that I am now paying more for my fuel than when I fixed it.
Please advise and explain as I am a little suspicious about these deals and offers.

Hi Mohammed, the price of a fixed-rate tariff depends on how much energy you use and where you live.

You can do an energy comparison using our energy calculator to find out the cheapest fixed deal available to you.

I am a British gas customer and am only concerned with electricity rates as I do not use any gas appliances. We pay a large amount every three months approx £250-300 therefore I am looking to save some money as I believe a fixed rate would be of great benefit. Please can you provide me details of how I can switch to a fixed rate and how much this would be. - Nov 2 2009 10:19AM

I am interested to read the comments regarding the new fixed price deal, as I am currently in dispute with british gas over a previous fixed price deal. I signed up in november 2006 online at the house.co.uk website, but discovered much later in september this year that the deal hadn't gone through despite the confirmation email I received. British Gas then recalculated for me on both Gas and electricity backdating it for a period, and it ended up showing that I owed them around £100 . I am still trying to establish exactly why they think I owe them money, and why a fixed price deal has over 20 months cost more than the standard rate. Its taken around 3 hours of phone calls and numerous emails so far, and I still havn't an answer. They tried to tell me today that I have only been buying electricity from them since feb 2007. Despite this they insist I owe them £128.44 up to that date.
Yours confused, and still waiting for an answer from british gas.

I registered ,as I thought ,to fix my dualfuel prices on 30th July and received a confirmation from the website where I registered (cpw.webmail.aol.com) that I had entered into a supply contract with British Gas (my existing supplers). Now British Gas tell me that my tariff is clickenergy, not price protected 2009 (or even 2011) and say that the wrong tariff must be an error/fault on the web-site where I registered. If British Gas don't like these price comparison sites, as they told me, why do they work with them? - Aug 22 2008 10:50PM
Dear Sir or Madam,
Having been a customer with british gas for a number of years and a duel fuel customer my electric has always been paid by direct debit and prefer this payment. Earlier on this year I tried to pay for my gas by this method on numerous occations I was denyed this right I can now see why which bars me from the new fix and fall agreement this is not only morally wrong but leaves a nasty taste towards British Gas.

I'm tempted to sign up for a fixed price until 2001 but am unsure what happens if the prices fall. There maybe a difference between 'fixed' and 'capped' prices as far as that is concerned. I've never changed my supplier for gas or electric as I keep hearing about people who live to regret it! I wish British Gas were a bit more detailed in their offer. - Aug 13 2008 11:00AM

i have been a British gas customer for over 26 years and wish to sign up to 2011, but
you will not let me sign up as it stands i.e i pay every quarter cash. Is this fair as you
have allowed this transaction from myself a loyal customer for this lenth of time.
