British Gas Click Energy 5

(11/2/08) British Gas (www.britishgas.co.uk) has withdrawn its Click Energy 4 tariff and it is no longer available to new customers.

writes Denae D’Arcy denae@consumerchoices.co.uk

It has instead been replaced with Click Energy 5. Prices have increased for both tariffs and industry analysts estimate prices will increase by up to 18.6% for gas and electricity.

Customers who are signed up to British Gas Click Energy 4 will remain on this tariff, with Click Energy 5 available for all new customers. Both of the tariff schemes are affected and will now cost an average* of £880 per year for dual fuel, an increase of £138 a year.

Once the cheapest online option, British Gas' Click Energy 5 is now the second most expensive option among providers. Find out if you could save money on your gas and electricity, use our Energy Comparison Calculator.

Current Customers

The changes were made on Friday February 8th and those who are signed up or signed up to Click Energy 4 over the weekend will be affected by the tariff changes. If you are concerned about the charges contact British Gas directly alternatively wait for correspondence detailing the exact changes.

Chris Eagle, Commercial Manager with Energychoices.co.uk says “With these sudden price changes British Gas customers on the existing Click Energy 4 tariff should check that they are still benefiting from the cheapest energy service and compare prices online.”
