Act fast or miss out on £800 boiler scrappage

Act fast or miss out on £800 boiler scrappage

Brits can get up to £800 off a new boiler, but they need to apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, Npower warns.

Homeowners are being urged to act fast if they want to make the most of the government’s boiler scrappage scheme.

By combining the government’s scheme and Npower’s offer, you could potentially save £800 on a new boiler.

Brits can get up to £400 off a new energy efficient boiler through the scheme, when they trade in their old one (if it is G-rated or worse). However, only a small proportion of eligible households will benefit from the scheme.

Kevin Miles, CEO of Npower warned: “There are approximately four million G-rated boilers in the UK, but there are only 125,000 grants available under the scheme.”

He said the scrappage scheme offers the perfect opportunity to install a new boiler and cut heating bills, and advised customers not to leave their application too late.

Npower says there has been huge interest in its own boiler scrappage scheme, which matches the government’s offer of £400.

Chris Eagle, commercial manager at Energychoices.co.uk, said: “By combining the government’s scheme and Npower’s offer, you could potentially save £800 on a new boiler.

“Plus, Npower is offering its £400 discount when you trade in any boiler that’s 10 years old or older, so even if your boiler’s not G-rated you could benefit.

“However, when choosing a boiler it’s important to shop around and get several quotes, to ensure you get the best deal.”
